Lil Comfy is the part of the range where we are strictest, because babies cannot tell you that something itches. Everything is cut from soft cotton, seams are placed to avoid rubbing at the neck and shoulders, and fastenings are chosen so that a nappy change at two in the morning is a ten second job rather than a wrestling match. Onesies, rompers, tees and night sets from newborn through six years. Parents buying baby clothes are usually buying under time pressure and on very little sleep, so we have tried to remove the guesswork wherever we can: honest height-based sizing rather than vague age labels, openings that work in the dark, and fabric weights chosen for a north Indian climate rather than copied from a European size chart that assumes a colder house.
Infant skin is thinner and more reactive than adult skin, so the things that would merely annoy you can genuinely upset a baby. We use flatlock seams in the areas that sit against the body, keep labels printed rather than stitched wherever the pattern allows, and place any hard fastening away from the spine and the belly. It is a slower way to sew and it is not visible in a product photograph, which is why it is worth saying out loud.
Our kids sizing runs by age band and by height, and height is the more reliable of the two because children of the same age vary enormously. Measure from heel to crown, find the band, and if your child is at the upper end of it, take the next size. Babies grow through a size roughly every three months in the first year, so buying slightly ahead is sensible for anything other than a piece you want to fit perfectly for a specific occasion.
Wash new pieces before first wear, always, whoever made them. Use a mild detergent without optical brighteners, skip the fabric softener because it coats the fibre and reduces absorbency, and dry in shade. Cotton at this weight dries quickly and does not need a hot cycle. Stains from milk and food lift best if you rinse cold immediately rather than letting them set.
The useful rule is one light layer more than an adult in the same room would be comfortable in, and no more than that. Overheating is a genuine risk with infants and it is far more common than being too cold, because the instinct of most families is to add another blanket. Through a Punjab summer a single cotton onesie is usually enough indoors, with a thin muslin over the legs if the fan is running directly overhead. Through December and January, layer a full-sleeve cotton set under a knit rather than putting a baby straight into something heavy, so you can strip a layer off when you move indoors without having to change the whole outfit.
