Kids' clothing for ages 2 to 11: soft cotton that survives the playground
Children test clothes harder than any wear trial we could design. They climb, crawl under tables, slide on concrete and then sit in a classroom for six hours, so the range is built around three things: cotton soft enough that nobody complains about an itchy neck, seams that stay flat against the skin, and colour that is still bright after fifty washes. The collection covers printed tees, hoodies and matching co-ord sets in age bands from 2-3 years to 10-11 years, cut a little roomy because a child who is comfortable moves more, and a child who moves more outgrows things. Everything is stitched in our own unit in Zirakpur, so the same quality checks that apply to the adult range apply here, including a pull test on every neck rib and a colourfastness check on every printed batch.
Why the seams matter more than the print
A print can be as loud as you like, but what a child notices is whatever touches the skin. We use flatlock seams under the arms and along the side, keep neck labels printed rather than stitched wherever the design allows, and finish the collar with a ribbed band that recovers its shape after being pulled over a head a few hundred times. It is slower to sew and it does not show in a product photograph, which is why it is worth saying out loud.
Sizing for a child who is about to grow
Kids' sizes run by age band and by height, and height is the more reliable guide because children of the same age vary enormously. Measure from heel to crown, find the matching band, and if your child sits at the top of it, take the next size up. Pieces are cut with room in the body and a little extra sleeve length, so a size bought slightly ahead will still look right now and last a full season longer.
Washing school and play clothes
Wash new pieces once before first wear. Use a mild detergent, turn printed tees inside out, and dry in shade so the print keeps its edge. Cotton at this weight dries quickly and does not need a hot cycle. Grass and food stains lift best when rinsed in cold water straight away rather than left to set overnight.
Dressing for the season in north India
Punjab summers call for a single light tee in breathable cotton, with a short-sleeve co-ord set for days that mix school and play. From November the useful approach is layering rather than one heavy garment: a tee underneath, a fleece-lined hoodie on top, and the option to take the hoodie off when the classroom warms up. Children overheat faster than they get cold, so lighter layers that can be added and removed work better than a single thick piece.
A short buying guide
- Ages 2 to 5
- Soft tees and easy co-ord sets with no hard fastenings at the front. Buy one size ahead.
- Ages 6 to 8
- Printed tees and hoodies that handle school days and weekend play equally well.
- Ages 9 to 11
- Roomier cuts that suit growing children without looking oversized.
- Matching sets
- Two-piece co-ord sets in the same fabric, so the top and bottom always match after washing.
Questions we get asked
Is the fabric soft enough for sensitive skin?
We use soft combed cotton with flatlock seams at contact points and avoid stitched labels at the neck. Wash before first wear with a mild detergent, as you would with any children's clothing.
Should I buy my child's current size or the next one?
For everyday wear, buy the next age band if your child is at the top of their current one. The cuts are roomy by design, so a slightly large fit still looks right.
Will the print fade after washing?
Prints are checked for colourfastness before dispatch. Turn the garment inside out, wash cold and dry in shade, and the print should hold its colour for a long time.
Can I tumble dry these?
You can on low, but shade drying is better for the print and the elastic, and cotton this light dries quickly anyway.
